When your Elite access control system starts failing, you need the part matched to your exact model, priced honestly, and installed without a runaround. We stock Elite-compatible access control components on our trucks and install them across Fort Lauderdale, with most installations running $350 to $950 depending on the module and wiring complexity. The symptom picture is usually pretty specific: your keypad lights up but won’t release the gate, the receiver stops talking to your remotes, or the whole board goes dark after a storm.
Elite systems are workhorses, but South Florida humidity and salt air take a toll on circuit boards faster than almost anywhere else in the country. We see it every week: a gate that worked fine for eight years suddenly won’t respond, and the board inside the control box looks like it’s been through a car wash. That’s not a manufacturing defect. That’s Fort Lauderdale living.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite access control systems span several series lines, and the part you need depends on which generation you own. The most common in Fort Lauderdale are the Elite SL-Series (SL-3000, SL-5000) and the older CSW and MSL opener lines, though we also work on Elite Sentry and Mirage access systems. The compatibility gotcha most owners don’t know: Elite changed their control board pinouts between the CSW and SL generations, so a board that looks identical may not plug into your wiring harness without an adapter. It’s the first thing we check when we’re matching a part.
Identifying the right component is straightforward if you know where to look. Open the control box and check the aluminum label on the inside of the door. It lists the model number, voltage, and a serial that tells us the production run. If the label is faded from sun exposure, which happens a lot on west-facing gates, snap a photo of the board itself and we can usually ID it from the layout and the revision stamp. For Elite specifically, we recommend OEM boards over aftermarket clones when the part is still manufactured. The aftermarket equivalents work, but we’ve seen calibration drift on the current-sensing circuit, which is the part that detects obstructions and keeps your gate from pinning someone. That’s not a place to save forty dollars.

Signs Your Elite Access Control Installation Is Failing
- Gate won’t respond to keypad or remote, but you hear a click. The control board is receiving signal but not triggering the relay. Usually a failing dry-contact output or a corroded terminal block on the board.
- System resets itself randomly. The board’s power regulation circuit is degrading, often accelerated by voltage spikes during thunderstorm season. If your gate opens, then closes halfway and reboots, the board is on borrowed time.
- Keypad works, remote doesn’t, or vice versa. Elite systems run separate input channels. One dead input while the other works points to a failed receiver module or a damaged ribbon connector rather than a total board failure.
- Access control works, but gate makes a grinding or straining noise. The board is sending current, but the motor’s limit settings have drifted or the capacitor is failing. We’ll test the capacitor separately before condemning the board.
- Burning smell or scorched terminals inside the control box. This is the one that gets our attention fast. A short or overloaded relay can cook a terminal strip. Kill power at the breaker and call us; this is not a “wiggle the wire” situation.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For Elite access control installation in Fort Lauderdale, the installed price typically falls between $350 and $950. The spread comes down to which module failed and how much rewiring is involved. A straightforward receiver or keypad swap on an SL-3000 usually lands at the lower end. A full control board replacement on an older CSW with corroded terminals and a new antenna run can push toward the top of the range, and if we’re also recalibrating limit switches and safety edges, that adds labor.
What’s included: the part, the labor, and our written price before anything starts. You’ll see the invoice number match what we quoted at the door, not a penny more. Every Elite access control installation we do carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the part or the install fails within 365 days, Calder Gate Repair returns at no charge. No pro-rated nonsense, no “well, that’s a different issue” runaround. That’s the promise, in writing, on every job.
DIY or Call Us?
The honest split: if your Elite system is flickering or the keypad membrane looks cracked, you can safely check the obvious stuff, like making sure the breaker hasn’t tripped or that a palm frond isn’t blocking the gate track. But once you open that control box, you’re dealing with line voltage, charged capacitors, and a board that can hold a residual charge even with the breaker off. Access control installation on an Elite opener involves wiring that can cause serious shock or a short that fries your entire board and you’re out $600 instead of $150.
If the symptom is “it clicks but won’t open,” give us a call. Nico Alvarez and the crew can usually diagnose it over the phone in five minutes: “Tell me what it’s doing wrong, I’ll tell you what it costs to fix it, in writing, before we start.” Fort Lauderdale calls reach a live person 24/7 at (754) 354-2542.
FAQs
Elite boards typically last 7 to 10 years in Fort Lauderdale’s climate, which is about two years shorter than the same board in drier parts of the country. Humidity and salt air accelerate corrosion on the terminals and solder joints, and the afternoon lightning pattern in South Florida is hard on the power regulation circuit. If your board is past year eight and showing symptoms, replacing it proactively is cheaper than an emergency swap. Call (754) 354-2542 for an exact quote on your model.
Sometimes, yes. We’ll repair boards with simple failures like a blown capacitor, a cold solder joint, or a scorched terminal strip. But if the microprocessor is dead or the board has multiple layers of corrosion, replacement is the honest answer. We’ll show you the board and explain exactly what failed before we recommend either path. Estimates are free, and the repair decision is always yours.
Most Elite access control installations take 60 to 90 minutes on-site, which includes the swap, wiring verification, limit switch recalibration, and a full test cycle. If we’re replacing an entire control box or running new antenna wire, budget two hours. We’ll give you a live arrival window you can track, so you’re not sitting around all day.
Yes. We carry current Elite SL-Series boards, receiver modules, keypads, and antenna kits on the truck, along with common parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems. If your Elite model is an older CSW generation, we may need a same-day parts run or a one-day order, but we’ll tell you that before we dispatch, not after we arrive.
