BFT access control installation in Fort Lauderdale typically runs $275 – $650 installed, depending on whether you’re replacing a failed control board, adding a keypad or card reader, or putting in a full system from scratch. We stock BFT-compatible control boards, keypads, receivers, and safety edge components on our trucks, so most installations happen same-day. The usual story we hear: the gate opens fine with the remote, but the keypad stopped working, or the card reader just blinks and nothing happens, or the gate won’t stay open long enough anymore. That’s almost always the access control component talking back, not the motor itself. Nico Alvarez and our crew have fixed enough BFT systems along Las Olas Boulevard and the surrounding neighborhoods to know exactly where BFT access installs go sideways in South Florida.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
BFT access control fits into two families: the older single-board systems and the newer modular setups. If your gate is running a Deimos, Phobos, or Argo actuator, the access control is usually integrated into the main control board itself. On newer BFT units especially the Ignis and X-Ray lines, the access control is often a smaller daughterboard or a separate keypad module that plugs in. Before you order anything, open the control box and look for the BFT model plate. It’ll have a code like “BFT Thalia” or “BFT Lux 2B” printed on a foil sticker. The gotcha: BFT makes a 433 MHz version and an 868 MHz version for the European market, and the two are not interchangeable. In Fort Lauderdale, you want the 433 MHz unit. We tell every customer the same thing: snap a photo of the label and text it to us. Thirty seconds of checking beats buying a board that doesn’t talk to your receiver.
On OEM versus aftermarket: BFT genuine parts are well-built and we install them, but quality aftermarket control boards from names like EverAccess and Continental have been running reliably in Fort Lauderdale gates for years. The aftermarket boards often cost 30 – 40% less and carry their own warranty. We’ll quote both options and let you decide. We are an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with BFT, but we work on their equipment every week.

Signs Your BFT Access Control Installation Is Failing
- The keypad lights up but the gate won’t move. In BFT systems, this usually means the keypad is sending the code, but the main board isn’t receiving it. A dead relay on the access control module is the prime suspect, especially on units older than five years.
- The card reader beeps twice, then nothing. BFT card readers flash a red LED when the card is rejected, but two quick beeps with no gate movement usually points to a lost programming link between the reader and the control board. South Florida humidity gets inside outdoor readers and corrodes the data pins over time.
- The gate closes while someone is still walking through. On BFT systems, safety edges and photocells feed through the access control board. When that board starts to fail, it ignores the safety inputs and the gate becomes dangerous. This is the one symptom we tell people not to wait on.
- One remote opens the gate, but the keypad is hit-or-miss. If the remote works and the keypad doesn’t, the access control receiver is fine and the keypad circuit is failing. Sometimes it’s just a bent pin on the connector. Other times the keypad membrane has worn through from salt air exposure. Fort Lauderdale’s coastal air is brutal on BFT keypads.
- The display shows “Er” or a blinking triangle every morning. BFT control boards log fault codes when the access module loses communication overnight. If you see this consistently, the board is on its way out. It might work for another month or it might quit tomorrow.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Fort Lauderdale, a BFT access control replacement parts and labor usually lands between $275 and $650. A keypad swap runs on the low end. A full control board replacement with new wiring and a recoded receiver lands on the high end. Here’s the breakdown:
- BFT keypad replacement: $275 – $390 installed. Includes the new keypad, recoding to your existing remotes, and a system test.
- BFT control board (OEM): $420 – $650 installed. Includes the board, full reprogramming of all remotes, keypads, and safety devices.
- Aftermarket control board: $340 – $480 installed. Same labor and programming, but with a quality aftermarket board and its own warranty.
- Card reader integration (new install): $450 – $650 installed. Includes the reader, cards, wiring, and programming.

DIY or Call Us?
You can check a few things safely before calling. Make sure the keypad isn’t just full of ants. No joke, we see that in Fort Lauderdale weekly. Check that the breaker for the gate is on and that the keypad wires are still connected at the control box if you’re comfortable opening it. But swapping a BFT access control board is not a beginner job. The control box carries live 120V power even when the gate isn’t moving, and the low-voltage side ties into safety devices that have to be re-learned in the right order or the gate will misbehave. If you’ve got a gate that closes on people, don’t tinker with it. That’s a call to (754) 354-2542. Tell us what it’s doing wrong and we’ll tell you what it costs to fix it, in writing, before we start.
FAQs
In Fort Lauderdale’s heat and salt air, a BFT control board typically lasts 5 – 8 years before the capacitors or relays start acting up. Coastal properties sometimes see failures at the 4-year mark. Boards mounted in direct afternoon sun die faster. A shaded, ventilated control box is the best thing you can do for a BFT system.
Sometimes. Burned relays can be swapped, and corroded connectors can be cleaned and resoldered. But if the main processor is dead or the board has water damage, repair costs more than replacement, faster. We will always tell you which one you’re looking at before we quote anything. Call (754) 354-2542 and describe what the gate is doing.
A BFT keypad swap is 45 minutes to an hour. A full control board replacement with all the reprogramming runs 90 minutes to two hours. Most Fort Lauderdale calls are done the same day because we keep the common BFT access components on the truck.
Yes. Our trucks carry BFT keypads, Thalia and Lux control boards, card reader modules, and safety edge components. If you own a LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, or Ghost Controls gate, we stock those parts too. But BFT is what we see most in Fort Lauderdale, so we keep it deep.
If your BFT gate is misbehaving, call (754) 354-2542 now for a free estimate. A live person answers 24/7, we’ll get a trackable arrival time on the board, and we’ll put the price in writing before anything gets turned. That’s the Relay Standard, and we don’t work any other way.
